icepyx is a python software library for accessing and working with ICESat-2 data. Acting as a wrapper around Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) supported by the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), icepyx enables data acquisition in as few as three lines of code.

The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3A Sea Ice Freeboard, Version 3 (ATL10) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains estimates of sea ice freeboard, calculated using three different approaches. Sea ice leads used to establish the reference sea surface and descriptive statistics used in the height estimates are also provided.

Beginning in 2021, the MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 1 (NSIDC-0630) data set, available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), will replace the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 (NSIDC-0032) data set. NSIDC will continue quarterly processing of NSIDC-0032 through 31 December 2020, after which no new data will be available; the data set will be retired in 2021.

The Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data, Version 1 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2019. This data set is generated from brightness temperature data and is designed to provide a consistent time series of sea ice concentrations spanning the coverage of several passive microwave instruments. The data are provided in the polar stereographic projection at a grid cell size of 25 x 25 km.

The LVIS Facility L1B Geolocated Return Energy Waveforms, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated from a basic to a standard level of service. Learn about levels of service.

The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3A Sea Ice Height, Version 3 (ATL07) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains along-track heights for sea ice and open water leads (at varying length scales) relative to the WGS84 ellipsoid (ITRF2014 reference frame) after adjustment for geoidal and tidal variations, and inverted barometer effects.

New data access options are available for the MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) Digital Elevation Model from GeoEye and WorldView Imagery, Version 1 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The data access location for this data set has changed. Users accessing this data set through a script will need to update accordingly.

Three AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified brightness temperature and sea ice polar gridded data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated to correct errors in data designated with the B02 Product Maturity Code:

The DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 30 April 2020. This data set contains gridded data from the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) in three equal-area projections: Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere, and full global. The temporal coverage for this data set is now 09 July 1987 through 30 April 2020.

The DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures, Version 5 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 30 April 2020. These newest data derive from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) sensor aboard the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) F18 satellite. DMSP F18 derived data now have a temporal coverage from 01 January 2017 through 30 April 2020. In addition, another year of data from the DMSP F17 satellite has also been published.

The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Weekly Gridded Atmosphere, Version 2 (ATL16) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains gridded global cloud fraction, total column optical depth over the oceans, polar cloud fraction, blowing snow frequency, apparent surface reflectivity, and ground detection frequency.

The Arctic Sea Ice Seasonal Change and Melt/Freeze Climate Indicators from Satellite Data, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been reprocessed and updated through the 2017 season. These updates correspond with a new minor version (Version 1.1). The data set was reprocessed to correct the continuous freeze onset (CFO) field, which mistakenly duplicated the early freeze onset (EFO) field in earlier versions.

The MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2019. This data set is an improved, enhanced-resolution, gridded passive microwave Earth System Data Record (ESDR) for monitoring cryospheric and hydrologic time series.

The IceBridge ATM L2 Icessn Elevation, Slope, and Roughness, Version 2 data set has been updated to include data from the 2019 Arctic campaign, from 03 April 2019 through 16 May 2019, at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).

Multiple Level-1B, Level-2A, and Level-3A data sets from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission have been updated to Version 3 at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets provide: telemetry data; geolocated photon data; backscatter profiles; atmospheric layer characteristics; and geolocated surface elevations for land ice, land and vegetation, and ocean surface.

New data access options are available for the MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) Land Ice and Ocean Classification Mask, Version 1 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The data access location for this data set has changed. Users accessing this data set through a script will need to update accordingly.

The download location has changed for the Pre-IceBridge MCoRDS L2 Ice Thickness, Version 1 data set, which is now part of the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains depth sounder measurements of ice elevation, ice surface, ice bottom, and ice thickness over Greenland and Antarctica, acquired by the Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth Sounder (MCoRDS) from 23 June 1993 through 23 September 2007.
