Data Updates
The MODIS Version 6 (Collection 6) Snow Cover and Sea Ice data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will be retired in August of 2023. After this date, access to the data will no longer be available, but documentation will remain available for future reference. NSIDC encourages users to switch to the newer MODIS Version 6.1 (Collection 6.1) data.
The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Collection 2 (Version 2) data sets are now available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). Collection 2 includes new and improved VIIRS S-NPP snow, sea ice, and ice surface temperature data sets, as well as the first public release of VIIRS data sets from the JPSS-1 (NOAA-20) satellite, which was launched on November 18, 2017.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Image Mosaics from Sentinel-1A and -1B, Version 4 dataset, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. The temporal coverage of this dataset now spans from 01 January 2015 to 25 March 2023.
The Images of the Antarctic Ice Shelves tool as well as the Images of Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been retired as of 13 June 2023. Images of Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 1 data has been incorporated into the Images of the Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 2 data set.
The SMAPVEX19-22 Massachusetts Lidar Derived Digital Elevation Model, Version 1 and SMAPVEX19-22 Millbrook Lidar Derived Digital Elevation Model, Version 1 data sets, are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The SnowEx20 Grand Mesa IOP Computed Tomography Snow Microstructure, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set characterizes snow microstructure of six snow pits from the SnowEx 2020 Grand Mesa, Colorado Intensive Observation Period using microcomputed tomography (micro-CT).
The Land Cover Classification, Snow Cover, and Fractional Snow-Covered Area Maps from Maxar WorldView Satellite Images, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures, Version 6 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 5 April 2023. This data set provides daily gridded brightness temperatures derived from passive microwave sensors and distributed in a polar stereographic projection.
The GLIMS Glacier Database, Version 1 dataset, available via the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. This update includes new data on glacier outlines and improvements to existing ones.
VIIRS Collection 2 (Version 2) will be available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) in the coming weeks.
The Images of the Antarctic Ice Shelves tool as well as the Images of Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will be retired on 31 May 2023. Images of Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 1 data has been incorporated into the Images of the Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 2 data set.
The SMAPVEX19-22 Massachusetts Temporary Soil Moisture Network, Version 1, and SMAPVEX19-22 Millbrook Temporary Soil Moisture Network, Version 1 data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated to include data through 31 October 2021.
Temporal updates for the MEaSUREs Greenland Image Mosaics from Sentinel-1A and -1B, Version 4 and MEaSUREs Greenland 6 and 12 day Ice Sheet Velocity Mosaics from SAR, Version 2 data sets are now available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The temporal coverage for both the image mosaics and 6 and 12 day velocity mosaics data now spans from 01 January 2015 to 17 February 2023.
