NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of the Daily Great Lakes Ice Concentration, 1973 Onward data set. This data set consists of gridded lake ice concentration for the Laurentian Great Lakes from the NOAA@NSIDC Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL). The data are provided as ASCII text files along with corresponding browse image files in JPEG format beginning in 1973 and going through the present. GLERL produces this product to help researchers and others understand how, when, and where lake ice forms and breaks up.
Multiple VIIRS snow cover data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been reprocessed due to an error in the planetary ephemeris data. This resulted in the use of incorrect solar and lunar vectors for the period 16 Jan. 2020 00:00:00 - 17 Jan 2020 10:00:00. The affected files were reprocessed and redelivered on 6 March 2020. VIIRS/NPP Snow Cover 6-Min L2 Swath 375m, Version 1 Data set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/VIIRS/VNP10.001 V
Multiple Nimbus data sets are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets contain daily, global, grayscale TIFF images and were detected by either the High Resolution Infrared Radiometer (HRIR) on board the Nimbus 1 (1964), Nimbus 2 (1966), and Nimbus 3 (1969-1970) satellites or the Temperature-Humidity Infrared Radiometer (THIR) on board the Nimbus 4 (1970-1971), Nimbus 5 (1973-1975), and Nimbus 6 (1975) satellites.
The LVIS Classic L1B Geolocated Return Energy Waveform, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains geolocated return energy waveforms collected by the NASA Land, Vegetation, and Ice Sensor (LVIS), an airborne lidar scanning laser altimeter.
The LVIS Classic L2 Geolocated Surface Elevation and Canopy Height Product, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains geolocated surface elevation and canopy height measurements collected by the NASA Land, Vegetation, and Ice Sensor (LVIS), an airborne lidar scanning laser altimeter.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the “International Ice Patrol Annual Count of Icebergs South of 48 Degrees North, 1900 to Present” data set. The data are being released in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) International Ice Patrol (IIP). Every year during the ice season, the IIP surveys icebergs in the vicinity of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland within the western Atlantic Ocean and issues daily iceberg charts. The number that drift south of 48° N is significant because these pose a larger threat to transatlantic shipping.
New data access options are available for the MEaSUREs Phase-Based Antarctica Ice Velocity Map, Version 1 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). The direct download location for this MEaSUREs (Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments) data set has changed.
The IceBridge UAF Lidar Scanner L1B Geolocated Surface Elevation Triplets, Version 1 data set has been updated to include 2019 Alaska campaign data from 22 September 2019 through 28 September 2019 at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains scanning laser altimetry data points acquired by the airborne University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Glacier Lidar system.
The Canadian Meteorological Centre (CMC) Daily Snow Depth Analysis Data, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated with a new file naming convention and a reorganized directory structure.
