NSIDC has discovered some large data gaps in the 2018 F18 Brightness Temperature record affecting the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures, Version 5 data set. Northern and Southern Hemisphere data files from 10 February through13 March 2018 and from 30 September through 31 October 2018 may contain only zero values. NSIDC is investigating the issue and will reprocess data files once the problem has been identified.
The Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS, Version 3 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2018. This data set contains sea ice concentrations, ice-covered area, ice persistence, and sea ice extent for the Arctic and Antarctic.
The data access locations for multiple passive microwave data sets, available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have changed. Users accessing these data through a script will need to update accordingly. The new data access URLs are provided below:

The IceBridge Sea Ice Freeboard, Snow Depth, and Thickness Quick Look, Version 1 data set has been updated to include data for the 2019 Arctic campaign from 06 April 2019 to 22 April 2019 at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This quick look product is experimental and designed to be applicable for time-sensitive projects such as sea ice forecasting. Data Set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/GRIXZ91DE0L9
The SMAP Level-2 and Level-3 standard and enhanced radiometer soil moisture data sets, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), have been updated. The optional Dual Channel Algorithm (DCA) in the Level-2 products has been replaced by the Modified Dual Channel Algorithm (MCDA). The baseline algorithm (SCA-V) remains unchanged for both Level-2 and Level-3 products. Other primary changes include:
The MEaSUREs Greenland Image Mosaics from Sentinel-1A and -1B, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated with mosaics through May 2019. This data set is produced under the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program and contains 6-day and 12-day 50 m resolution image mosaics of the Greenland coastline and ice sheet periphery.
The VIIRS/NPP Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 375m SIN Grid, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). T
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the NOAA@NSIDC Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration, Version 3 data set is now available through 2018. This data set provides a Climate Data Record (CDR) of sea ice concentration from passive microwave data. It provides a consistent, daily and monthly time series of sea ice concentrations from 09 July 1987 through 31 December 2018 for both the north and south polar regions on a 25 km x 25 km grid.
