The AMSRE/AMSR2 Unified L2B Global Swath Surface Precipitation, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set provides instantaneous surface precipitation rate and type over land and ocean, and precipitation profiles over ocean between 89.24 degrees north and south latitudes with spatial resolutions of 10 km spatial resolution along the track and 5 km spatial resolution along the scan.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the NOAA@NSIDC Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration, Version 3 data set has been updated to include the time period of 01 January 2019 through 31 December 2019.
icepyx is a python software library for accessing and working with ICESat-2 data. Acting as a wrapper around Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) supported by the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), icepyx enables data acquisition in as few as three lines of code.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the Sea Ice Index has been updated from near-real-time data to final data for the time period 01 January 2019 through 31 December 2019. Initially, when the Sea Ice Index is first processed, it uses a near-real-time (NRT) sea ice concentration product as its input. This NRT product can contain missing data and has less quality control procedures applied to it than the final sea ice concentration input product provided by NASA Goddard. However, the final input product often lags behind the present by approximately a year.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the Daily Great Lakes Ice Concentration, 1973 Onward, Version 1 data set has been updated with the 2020 ice season data. This data set consists of gridded lake ice concentration for the Laurentian Great Lakes from the NOAA@NSIDC Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL).
The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3A Sea Ice Freeboard, Version 3 (ATL10) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains estimates of sea ice freeboard, calculated using three different approaches. Sea ice leads used to establish the reference sea surface and descriptive statistics used in the height estimates are also provided.
Beginning in 2021, the MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 1 (NSIDC-0630) data set, available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), will replace the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 (NSIDC-0032) data set. NSIDC will continue quarterly processing of NSIDC-0032 through 31 December 2020, after which no new data will be available; the data set will be retired in 2021.
The Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data, Version 1 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2019. This data set is generated from brightness temperature data and is designed to provide a consistent time series of sea ice concentrations spanning the coverage of several passive microwave instruments. The data are provided in the polar stereographic projection at a grid cell size of 25 x 25 km.
The SMAP Level-1, -2, -3, and -4 data sets from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) will be updated in summer 2020 as part of a scheduled annual reprocessing campaign.
