The DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 August 2020. This data set contains gridded data from the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) in three equal-area projections: Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere, and full global.
The MEaSUREs BedMachine Antarctica, Version 2 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to a new version. Additional ice thickness data have been used to constrain the bed topography under grounded ice, and new multi beam ocean bathymetry data and gravity inversions have been integrated for the Amundsen sea embayment. An error in geoid height was also corrected for the IBCSO bathymetry.
The SMAP/In Situ Core Validation Site Land Surface Parameters Match-Up Data, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated with additional core site files that have a temporal coverage of 2015-2020. The geolocation for one flight from the IceBridge DMS L1B Geolocated and Orthorectified Images, Version 1 data set's 2018 Arctic campaign archived at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been refined. The reprocessing applies only to the last 1092 frames from 07 April 2018. The existing 1092 files were replaced by the reprocessed files on 23 September 2020.

The Northern Hemisphere EASE-Grid 2.0 Weekly Snow Cover and Sea Ice Extent, Version 4 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2019. This data set contains snow cover and sea ice extent derived from SMMR and DMSP-F8, -F11, -F13, and -F17 SMM/I and SSMIS brightness temperature measurements. These data are provided on the 25 km Northern Hemisphere EASE-Grid 2.0.
The SnowEx20 Senator Beck Basin Transect Ground Surface Temperature, Version 1, is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains hourly ground surface temperature measurements collected between 20 October 2019 and 18 July 2020. Data were collected at 7 points along two plant monitoring transects in the Upper Basin of the Senator Beck Study Basin. Temperatures were measured using iButton temperature sensors.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity: Selected Glacier Site Velocity Maps from Optical Images, Version 3 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to a new version and new data access options are also available. New data have been added so the data set now spans 1 March 1985 - 31 December 2019.
The MODIS/Terra CGF Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 500m SIN Grid, Version 6.1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains daily cloud-free snow cover derived from the MODIS/Terra Snow Cover Daily L3 Global 500m SIN Grid data set (MOD10A1). Data are provided on 10° x 10° tiles projected to the 500 m sinusoidal grid.
The SMAPVEX19-21 Massachusetts and Millbrook Temporary Soil Moisture Network, Version 1 data sets, are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). These data sets contain soil moisture sensor, soil temperature and air temperature measurements recorded by 25 temporary stations in both Massachusetts (MA) and Millbrook (MB) experiment locations during SMAPVEX19-21. These data sets are available as part of an early release. Minimal documentation is currently available.
The SnowEx20 Grand Mesa IOP BSU 1 GHz Multi-polarization GPR Raw, Version 1, is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains the geolocated, unprocessed results of a ground penetrating radar survey conducted as part of the 2020 SnowEx campaign. Data were collected at Grand Mesa, Colorado (a snow-covered, forested study site) between 28 January 2020 and 04 February 2020.

The SnowEx17 CRREL Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) Point Cloud, Version 1 dataset, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has updated 11 files that had incorrect geolocation information and added 4 new files with additional sites and dates.

The High Mountain Asia Near-Global Multi-Decadal Glacial Lake Inventory, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains polygons of glacial lake extent on a near-global scale, averaged over five multi-year periods between 1990 and 2018 using optical imagery from Landsat missions 4, 5, 7, and 8.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity: Selected Glacier Site Velocity Maps from InSAR, Version 3 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to a new version. This data set is part of the NASA Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program. It provides velocity estimates determined from Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) data for major glacier outlet areas in Greenland.
The SMAP Project performs annual reprocessing of all its science data products based on improvements in the algorithms and supporting information. As part of this routine reprocessing, the SMAP Science Data System (SDS) has now released new versions of Level-1, -2, -3, and -4 data products, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). Several improvements were made to both standard and enhanced SMAP data products, including the following highlights:
The SnowEx20 Community Snow Depth Probe Measurements, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, collected during the SnowEx 2020 Intensive Operation Period (IOP) in Grand Mesa, Colorado, contains in situ snow depth measurements. Snow depth was measured using one of three instruments - Magnaprobe, Mesa 2, or pit ruler. Pit ruler data were collected from 150 snow pits identified for the Grand Mesa IOP.
The SnowEx20 SnowMicroPen (SMP) Raw Penetration Force Profiles, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains raw penetration force profiles from the SnowEx 2020 Intensive Observation Period in Grand Mesa, Colorado. Measurements were taken using the SnowMicroPen (SMP), a digital snow penetrometer. The data files contain force measurements (in Newtons) at various snow depths. Data are available from 28 January 2020 through 12 February 2020.
The Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS, Version 3 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2019. This data set contains sea ice concentrations, ice-covered area, ice persistence, and sea ice extent for the Arctic and Antarctic.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of the U.S. National Ice Center Daily Marginal Ice Zone Products data set. The marginal ice zone (MIZ) is defined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as “the region of an ice cover which is affected by waves and swell penetrating into the ice from the open ocean." This data product is a U.S. National Ice Center (USNIC) rendering of the MIZ as the band of ice in concentrations between 1/10 and 8/10, or about 10% to 80% concentration, that surrounds Arctic and Antarctic pack ice with higher concentrations.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Image Mosaics from Sentinel-1A and -1B, Version 3 data set, accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated to a new version and new data access options are also available. The data have been reprocessed using upgraded software and a revised DEM. There are two new parameters, a calibrated sigma0 radar backscatter product and a calibrated and radiometrically terrain-corrected gamma0 radar backscatter product.
The Nenana Ice Classic: Tanana River Ice Annual Breakup Dates, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to a new version. The data set now spans 1917 to 2020, the file format has changed to .csv, and errors in the computation of the fractional time of day have been corrected. The data access location for this data set has also changed. Users accessing this data set through a script will need to update accordingly.
