NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce a data update to the Global Lake and River Ice Phenology Database. A previous set of freeze/thaw data for Lake Suwa in Japan that had been removed due to an error in the date has been corrected and added back to the database. The data run from 1630 to 2018 and can be accessed via the Global Lake and River Ice Phenology search interface using lake code ARAI1. In addition, six years of freeze/thaw data for the Tornio River in Finland has been added to the database so that the data now run from 1693 to 2013.
The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3A Inland Water Surface Height, Version 3 (ATL13) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains along-track water surface heights and statistics for inland water bodies. Water bodies include lakes, reservoirs, bays, estuaries and rivers.
The DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures, Version 5 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 30 April 2020. These newest data derive from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) sensor aboard the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) F18 satellite. DMSP F18 derived data now have a temporal coverage from 01 January 2017 through 30 April 2020. In addition, another year of data from the DMSP F17 satellite has also been published.
The DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Pathfinder Daily EASE-Grid Brightness Temperatures, Version 2 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 30 April 2020. This data set contains gridded data from the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) in three equal-area projections: Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere, and full global. The temporal coverage for this data set is now 09 July 1987 through 30 April 2020.
The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Weekly Gridded Atmosphere, Version 2 (ATL16) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains gridded global cloud fraction, total column optical depth over the oceans, polar cloud fraction, blowing snow frequency, apparent surface reflectivity, and ground detection frequency.
The Arctic Sea Ice Seasonal Change and Melt/Freeze Climate Indicators from Satellite Data, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been reprocessed and updated through the 2017 season. These updates correspond with a new minor version (Version 1.1). The data set was reprocessed to correct the continuous freeze onset (CFO) field, which mistakenly duplicated the early freeze onset (EFO) field in earlier versions.
The MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated through 31 December 2019. This data set is an improved, enhanced-resolution, gridded passive microwave Earth System Data Record (ESDR) for monitoring cryospheric and hydrologic time series.
The IceBridge ATM L2 Icessn Elevation, Slope, and Roughness, Version 2 data set has been updated to include data from the 2019 Arctic campaign, from 03 April 2019 through 16 May 2019, at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
