As of 25 February 2023, C6 Forward processing of Terra and Aqua MODIS Land data products has been discontinued. The Collection 6.1 (C61) corrects these calibration issues and has a number of product specific improvements and enhancements that are listed in the C61 change document here.  Data for C6.0 will remain available for six months, but the NSIDC encourages users to switch to the newer Collection 6.1 data.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the NOAA/NSIDC Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration, Version 4 data set, accessible through the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), has been updated to include the time period of 01 June 2022 through 31 December 2022. This data set provides a consistent daily and monthly time series of sea ice concentrations from 25 October 1978 through 31 December 2022 for both the north and south polar regions on a 25 km x 25 km grid.
The MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR, Version 1 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), experienced a processing error from December 2021 to present. Forward processing of the data is paused until reprocessing is complete. An additional user notice will be sent when the reprocessed data become available and forward processing resumes.
The MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Velocity: Selected Glacier Site Velocity Maps from InSAR, Version 4 data set, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated. This update extended the temporal coverage through 28 January 2023, with new data files for the period spanning 5 August through 20 October 2022.
The Arctic and Antarctic Regional Masks for Sea Ice and Related Data Products, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data product is a set of polar ocean region masks. The masks have been developed primarily to support sea ice products, but they are potentially useful for other applications.
The Snow Melt Onset Over Arctic Sea Ice from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS Brightness Temperatures, Version 4 data set will be retired from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) on 28 February 2023. Access to the data will no longer be available, but the data set documentation will remain available for future reference.
The MEaSUREs ITS_LIVE Antarctic Grounded Ice Sheet Elevation Change, Version 1 data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set is produced under the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program. It provides monthly elevation change data for the Antarctic Ice Sheet from 17 April 1985 to 16 December 2020.
The SnowEx21 Senator Beck Basin and Grand Mesa, CO AVIRIS-NG Surface Spectral Reflectance, Version 1 (SNEX21_SSR) data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set provides apparent surface spectral reflectance imagery which demonstrates snow albedo and snow optical property evolution across two distinct snow-covered environments in Colorado.
Temporal updates for the MEaSUREs Greenland Image Mosaics from Sentinel-1A and -1B, Version 4 and MEaSUREs Greenland 6 and 12 day Ice Sheet Velocity Mosaics from SAR, Version 2 data sets are now available through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
