Images of Antarctic Ice Shelves, Version 2 (NSIDC-0102), accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include MODIS imagery through July 2022. This data set was created as part of an effort to closely monitor major ice streams and outlet glaciers along the Antarctic coast, with a focus on the ice shelves considered the most susceptible to rapid change due to climatic warming and those that occasionally calve major icebergs. This monitoring effort began using AVHRR 1 Km images from several NOAA polar-orbiting satellites, and later included MODIS images from both Terra and Aqua. AVHRR images are available from August 1989 to October 2001, while MODIS images are now available from March 2000 to July 2022. The NSIDC will be providing monthly updates to this data set with new MODIS imagery.
