On July 26, 2022, at approximately 16:25 UTC, the SNPP spacecraft and all onboard instruments (including VIIRS) entered safe mode, pausing collection. All data lost while the instrument was in safe mode will not be recoverable. The VIIRS instrument was returned to operational mode on August 10, 2022. Currently, the instruments are undergoing calibration and validation which is expected to last for two to three weeks. Data will not be released to the DAACs or the public until the calibration and validation team has approved its science quality. All data sets will experience a gap in temporal coverage.
NASA NSIDC DAAC will continue to post updates on our website https://nsidc.org/data/user-resources/data-announcements as they become available.
