Elizabeth Sheffield

Betsy Sheffield has worked in various capacities within NSIDC since she joined the user services staff in 2001. Currently is a project manager for three NSF-sponsored projects: the Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic (ELOKA) program, the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (ITGC), and the Arctic Rain on Snow Study (AROSS). With a background in geology and environmental studies and an interest in health and food security, Sheffield brings passion for people and problem solving to her role.

Betsy is the US Communications Lead for the Science Coordination Office (SCO) for the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (ITGC), a multi-year program with researchers across the US and UK to study the impacts from Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier to global sea level rise. Alongside the SCO team, she oversees the website, coordinates social media releases, communicates with research teams, assists with meeting planning, and collaborates on education and outreach projects. Betsy is the project manager for the Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic (ELOKA), and has worked in various capacities with the ELOKA project since its beginnings in 2007, initially as a user services representative and since 2012 as product owner and project manager. For the AROSS project, Betsy helps manage the project, overseeing web deliverables, running meetings, and communicating with colleagues and partners across the Arctic.
