The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Synthesis of Thwaites Glacier Dynamics: Diagnostic and Prognostic Sensitivity Studies of a West Antarctic Outlet System. This data set consists of experimental output from a higher-order finite-element model that was utilized in conjunction with existing data sets to isolate essential physical processes affecting Thwaites Glacier in the Amundsen Sea Embayment (ASE) of West Antarctica.
NASA IceBridge MCoRDS L1B Geolocated Radar Echo Strength Profiles, Version 2 data for 2012 Antarctica and 2013 Arctic are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains radar echograms taken from the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS) ultra Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth Sounder (MCoRDS) over land and sea ice in the Arctic and Antarctic. Version 2 data are provided in netCDF format.
From the early 1960s through the mid 1980s, the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office and later the Naval Research Laboratory conducted approximately nine missions per year over arctic sea ice in order to improve techniques for ice observation, refine forecasting techniques, collect data for military Arctic operations, and support U.S. Navy submarines during under-ice operations. Aerial photography from these flights was preserved on film.
The International Ice Patrol (IIP) Iceberg Sightings Database has been updated through 2013 and files have been reformatted for ease of use. The IIP has been collecting information on iceberg activity in the North Atlantic since 1913. This database contains the data from these sightings starting in 1960. The IIP data files include latitude and longitude of sighted icebergs, coded iceberg size and shape class, and date and time of the sighting.
NASA IceBridge Ku-Band Radar L1B Geolocated Radar Echo Strength Profiles, Version 2 data for 2012 Antarctica and 2013 Arctic are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains radar echograms taken from the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS) ku-band radar over land and sea ice in the Arctic and Antarctic. Version 2 data are provided in netCDF format. See the Ku-Band Radar L1B data catalog page for more information.
The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) at NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of a new data set, Radar Studies of Subglacial Lake Whillans and the Whillans Ice Stream Grounding Zone. This data set includes ground-based, gridded, ice-penetrating radar thickness and basal reflection power, along with GPS coordinates, for two areas of Whillans Ice Stream: Subglacial Lake Whillans and the Whillans Ice Stream grounding zone.
