The MEaSUREs Greenland Ice Mapping Project (GIMP) 2000 Image Mosaic data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, part of the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, provides a complete 15 m resolution image mosaic of the Greenland ice sheet derived from Landsat ETM+ and RADARSAT imagery from the years 1999 to 2002.
NASA IceBridge-related Likely Basal Thermal State of the Greenland Ice Sheet data are now published at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains key data sets that show how the likely basal thermal state was inferred from existing airborne and satellite data sets and recent methods, and provides a synthesis mask of the likely basal thermal state over the Greenland Ice Sheet.
NASA IceBridge DMS L1B Geolocated and Orthorectified Images for the 2016 Antarctica campaign are now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains Level-1B imagery taken from the Digital Mapping System (DMS) over Greenland and Antarctica. Data set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/OZ6VNOPMPRJ0
The Science Investigator-led Processing System (SIPS) has released the AMSR-E/AMSR2 Unified L2B Half-Orbit 25 km EASE-Grid Surface Soil Moisture data set. This data set provides a long-term data record (23 July 2002 through present) using a combination of AMSR-E and AMSR2 data with reprocessed AMSR-E L1R brightness temperatures. Backprocessing is ongoing, with data available from 23 July 2012 to date. These data are available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
The NSIDC Polaris Search and Order tool will be retired on 15 February 2017.
The SMAP Science Data System (SDS) has completed reprocessing of the latest release of SMAP radiometer data products.
The CanSISE Observation-Based Ensemble of Northern Hemisphere Terrestrial Snow Water Equivalent data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated to Version 2. Data Set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/96ltniikJ7vd
The Sea Ice Trends and Climatologies from SMMR and SSM/I-SSMIS data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated to Version 2. The following changes were made to this version of data:
Wednesday, February 1, 2017 12:00:00 PM MST - 1:00:00 PM MST Satellite passive microwave sensors observe microwave radiation traveling upward from the Earth.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce the release of Sea Ice Index Version 2.1. The motivation for the update to Version 2.1 was to port the Sea Ice Index IDL code to Python. Prior to V2.1, the Sea Ice Index was processed with code written mainly in IDL with some Perl, Ruby, and C. In an effort to streamline the processing, all of the code has been ported to Python.
The MEaSUREs Calibrated Enhanced-Resolution Passive Microwave Daily EASE-Grid 2.0 Brightness Temperature ESDR data set is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set, part of the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) Program, consists of an improved, enhanced-resolution, gridded passive microwave Earth System Data Record (ESDR) for monitoring cryospheric and hydrologic time series from SMMR, SSM/I-SSMIS and AMSRE.
NASA IceBridge DMS L0 Raw Imagery for the 2016 Antarctica campaign is now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains level zero imagery taken from the Digital Mapping System (DMS) over Antarctica and Greenland. Data Set DOI: https://doi.org/10.5067/UMFN22VHGGMH
NOAA@NSIDC would like to alert users of an upcoming update to the Sea Ice Index FTP directory structure and file names. The current FTP directory (ftp://sidads.colorado.edu/DATASETS/NOAA/G02135/) contains monthly data and images directly under the top-level directory with one subdirectory for each month. The monthly subdirectories house both northern and southern hemisphere data files and images within them (Figure 1).
The Near-Real-Time SSM/I-SSMIS EASE-Grid Daily Global Ice Concentration and Snow Extent data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been updated to Version 5. The NISE Version 5 data record begins 12/01/2016. A two-month overlap with NISE Version 4 is planned: 12/01/2016-01/31/2017. The following changes were also made to this version of data:
