NOAA@NSIDC would like to make you aware of a change to the data used to produce the U.S. National Ice Center Arctic and Antarctic Sea Ice Concentration and Climatologies in Gridded Format, Version 1 data set.
New data set release: ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly Gridded Dynamic Ocean Topography, Version 1 (ATL19)
The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3B Monthly Gridded Dynamic Ocean Topography, Version 1 (ATL19) data set from the Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission is now available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains monthly gridded dynamic ocean topography (DOT), derived from the along-track ATLAS/ICESat-2 L3A Ocean Surface Height product (ATL12, V4). Both single beam and all-beam gridded averages are available in this data set.
The SMAP Project performs annual reprocessing of all its science data products based on improvements in the algorithms and supporting information. As part of this routine reprocessing, the SMAP Science Data System (SDS) has now released new versions of the following four Level-4 data products, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC):
SMAP L4 Global 9 km EASE-Grid Surface and Root Zone Soil Moisture Land Model Constants, Version 6
Multiple Level-1B, Level-2A, and Level-3A data sets from the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission have been updated to Version 5 at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
These data sets provide: telemetry data; geolocated photon data; backscatter profiles; geolocated surface elevations for land ice, sea ice, land and vegetation; atmospheric layer characteristics; and sea ice freeboard estimates. The temporal coverage of each data set is included below.
The AMSR-E/Aqua L2B Global Swath Surface Precipitation GSFC Profiling Algorithm, Version 4 data set accessible from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) is now available. The data have been reprocessed using version 4 of the AMSR-E Level-2A Brightness temperatures as input data and the GPROF 2017 algorithm. Eight variables were removed and three have been added, and the names for some of the remaining variables have changed slightly.
NOAA@NSIDC is pleased to announce that the Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration, Version 4 data set has been updated to include the time period of 01 January 2021 through 31 May 2021.
The MEaSUREs Greenland 6 and 12 day Ice Sheet Velocity Mosaics from SAR, Version 1 data set is now available from the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC). This data set contains 6- and 12-day surface velocity estimates for the Greenland Ice Sheet and periphery derived from images acquired between 2015-2021 by the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B satellites.
The IceBridge ARES L1B Geolocated Radar Echo Strength Profiles, Version 1 data set, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), has been updated to include data for the Spring 2021 Alaska campaign from 2 May 2021 through 12 May 2021. This data set contains radar echograms acquired by the Arizona Radio-Echo Sounder (ARES) over select glaciers in Alaska. The data are provided in HDF5 formatted files, which include important metadata for interpreting the data.
The IceBridge Snow Radar L1B Geolocated Radar Echo Strength Profiles, Version 2 data set has been updated to include data for campaigns in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC).
A software issue at the SMAP Science Data System (SDS) has been impacting the latency of all SMAP products. Due to the software issue, SMAP products cannot be produced automatically; production must be started manually. The patch to fix this issue will be delivered sometime within the next month. In the meantime, the SDS team will manually run the SMAP production code. Users will be able to access all new files as NSIDC ingests them. However, new data may be delayed. Users should not expect data to be delivered at their typical frequency.
The SMAP Project performs annual reprocessing of all its science data products based on improvements in the algorithms and supporting information. As part of this routine reprocessing, the SMAP Science Data System (SDS) has now released new versions of the following four Level-2 and -3 data products, accessible through the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC):
