User notice: FTP access to NOAA data ends 31 December 2023

Reminder that after 31 December 2023, FTP access to NOAA@NSIDC data will no longer be available. Instead, you can now access NOAA@NSIDC data using the HTTPS protocol. We are transitioning from FTP to HTTPS for data distribution to improve user accessibility, particularly through web browsers.

The directory structure of the data sets has not changed, but the beginning of the URL has changed where ftp://sidads.colorado.edu/pub/DATASETS is replaced by https://noaadata.apps.nsidc.org. For example, to access daily GeoTIFFs for the Arctic from the Sea Ice Index data set: ftp://sidads.colorado.edu/pub/DATASETS/NOAA/G02135/north/daily/geotiff becomes https://noaadata.apps.nsidc.org/NOAA/G02135/north/daily/

Both the FTP and HTTPS access methods will be available for 3 more months, after that only the HTTPS access method will remain available. After 31 December 2023, FTP access to the data will no longer be possible.
