The NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) has been notified of erroneous data contained in the sea ice concentration field of the Sea Ice Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Passive Microwave Data for the date of 14 September 1984. A geolocation error in the source data resulted in the addition of several hundred thousand square kilometers of erroneous ice for both the Arctic and Antarctic records. The original files have been removed and replaced with an average of the two records nearest in time (September 12 and 16, 1984). The monthly September 1984 average concentration field was reprocessed using the corrected September 14 data. To access the replacement data, please see the data set documentation.
