The ATLAS/ICESat-2 L2A Global Geolocated Photon Data (ATL03), Version 6 data set, the ATLAS/ICESat-2 L2A Normalized Relative Backscatter Profiles (ATL04), Version 6 data set and the higher level products derived from ATL03 and ATL04, available at the NASA National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC), will be updated so the entire data set is referenced to ITRF2014. Starting on 13 November 2022, the geolocation inputs for these data switched from ITRF2014 to ITRF2020 leading to an inconsistency in the Version 6 release (see Known Issues documentation for ATL03). Differences between ITRF2014 and ITRF2020 are relatively small, <~2 mm on average, but vary regionally. Data from 13 November 2022 to 26 October 2023 in Versions 6 of ATL03, ATL04 and their derived products will be reprocessed to ITRF2014. Reprocessed data is expected to start arriving at NSIDC 1 April 2024. We will send another announcement when reprocessing is complete. If you encounter multiple granules with the same file name, please use the granule with the highest revision number. The next batch of finals (27 October 2023 - 27 December 2023) and all following batches of Version 6 will be processed in ITRF2014.
